| Article: THE CLEAN HOUSE (BRISBANE TIMES) |
March 11, 2010 Brooke Satchwell stars in The Clean House at the Playhouse Theatre from May 29. The Clean House is a comedy exploring how shared laughter is the best medicine. Sarah Ruhl's play stars Australian actress Brooke Satchwell as Matilde, a Brazilian girl who is hired as a live-in maid by Lane, a female American doctor. Matilde finds cleaning depressing and would rather spend her time following the legacy of her parents, creating the world's funniest joke. Lane's sister Virginia strikes up a companionship with Matlide and takes over most of her cleaning duties so she can continue with her quest. This balance however is thrown into disarray when Lane's husband finds love with another woman. Matilde must come to Lane's rescue, as everything that was clean and tidy for Lane falls apart. Director Kate Cherry leads the cast on their journey to pick up the pieces and evaluate their lives. Ruhl is a multi-award winning writer, with The Clean House nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, winning the Susan Blackburn Award 2004 and the Pen Award. Satchwell has taken the role of Matilde, the part originally starring Pia Miranda who was forced to withdraw from the role. The Black Swan State Theatre Company has had a stellar season, with hit plays The Sapphires and The Swimming Club. The Clean House is showing for 22 shows from May 29 to June 19 at the Playhouse Theatre. Tickets are $54.50 for standard down to $19.95 for students, with family and concession tickets available. There is no mention of a national tour, and it seems unlikely Black Swan would bring the play to Sydney, as they are the WA State Theatre Company and appear to have a full schedule of productions for the rest of this year already planned in Perth. However, if the play is very successful in Perth then Black Swan may tour WA with it, and they or another theatre company might be tempted to do a production of it in Sydney or Melbourne. In either case Brooke would not necessarily be in the cast, though she would probably be on the short list for her part, if she was available.

BT is linked with WA Today, which has a Your Perth section in the entertainment news area, which is where the article fits. But if you examine the page it's clearly bannered as Brisbane Times. Maybe Brooke was in Brisbane when they did the interview, or the reported was. I don't care so long as they keep telling us about new shows Brooke's in.

Great news! However, I am confused, why is the article from the 'Brisbane Times' but the Playhouse Theatre is in Perth?

True she is a human being and as a human being just one of billions, but she is also an actor and I for one really enjoy her work. I also think, as human beings go, she is one of the best. Congrats on the job! My contract ended a while back, so I'm not working now, but I expect to be by the time this show starts.

Playhouse Theatre3 Pier StreetPerth Western Australia 6000 Australia Time off work may be an issue, but I'll certainly try to get there. Would I really fly over 3,000 km just to see Brooke? Sure would, I'll even drive the 3,900 km to see her if it was the only way. Walking, well...
